Apple Distinguished School Celebration

Apple Representative Brittney Rowlett officially recognized Pope Prep as an Apple Designated School for 2022-2025 at an all-school assembly on November 29, 2022, following Apple's notification to Pope Prep in October. On hand to accept the designation was the Interim Head of School, Ms. Karen Phillips, and the Board of Trustees President, Mr. Russell Marino Jr. In celebration, Pope Prep invited the community to a Technology Showcase in its Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a space dedicated to student learning through technology's creative and collaborative power.

Pope Prep earned Apple's distinction for its innovative implementation of a 1:1 iPad program. It allows teachers and students to engage in collaborative learning, access cutting-edge educational resources, and create original, meaningful, and professional digital products in all subject areas. Congratulations to Dean of Curriculum and Instruction Jennifer Dye and the Pope Prep STEM team for their efforts that garnered this recognition, making our school part of the small group of schools worldwide named an Apple Designated School.

Students in the Graphic Design course designed posters using Adobe Illustrator on a Mac Computer.

Instrumental Tuning

Students in orchestra used instrument tuning apps, iTune and Tonal Energy Tuner, on iPads to develop listening skills and tune their instruments.

Desmos Function Art, Math Department

Students used functions to create or recreate images using Desmos on iPads.

Sports Medicine Internship, Physical Education Department

Students used the Essential Anatomy 5 app on iPads to learn interactively about the body then developed Instagram posts for the Sports Medicine account to educate athletes about injury prevention.

Cart Collision Lab, Science Department

Students used the Vernier Go Direct Sensor Carts to investigate two things: 1) if the peak forces exerted in a collision change if the speed or mass of the cart is increased/decreased 2) whether objects that are moving faster or have more mass exert larger forces during a collision than lighter/slower objects. The students then used the Vernier Graphical Analysis app on iPads to collect data from the sensors within the carts and graph the peak forces to see any changes.

Braided Comfort Sandals

Students used design thinking to develop a sustainable shoe made of plastic garbage found in Haiti and then developed a business model so that people in Haiti can develop their own business manufacturing and selling the shoes. They developed a promotional video using iMovie on iPads for their business.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program

Middle School Vex Robotics

Students are working in alliance with another team in the Slapshot challenge to shoot as many of the discs into the goal as possible using iPads and Vex IOS software.

High School Vex Robotics

Students are coding the autonomous portion of the Vex VRC Spin Up competition. The goal is to create a code that would shoot disks into the goal without any driver control using iPads and Vex IOS software.

3D Printing

Throughout the year, students consult with various community members to produce 3D print needs. The Armory asked that an ornament be 3D printed, so students designed and sliced the design and then created the print.

Middle School Entrepreneurship

Students developed a product from scratch, attempting to solve a problem that they faced on a daily basis. Using iPads, students were required to sketch and develop a prototype as well as create a demo presentation with a pitch slideshow and live demo of their prototype.
