8TH GRADE END OF THE YEAR EVENT INFORMATION

We look forward to celebrating our 8th grade students as they transition from middle school into high school! We have several special events planned to commemorate this milestone in their lives. Please review the following information, and feel free to contact us with any questions.

May 17 - May 19

8th Grade Exam Dates

Students will be taking exams so that they are complete before they leave for the 8th grade trip. Therefore, their exams begin a day earlier than the rest of the students.

Wednesday, May 17 

8th Grade Mass and Celebration

Between Exams

8th Grade Mass

10:45 - 11:35 a.m., Auditorium

Parents of 8th grade students are invited to attend a special Mass for the 8th grade students. 8th grade students are invited to wear their “Sunday best” to school on this day. (Dress code rules apply for dress/skirt length, and no bare shoulders are permitted. Boys may wear a tie and jacket, but it is not required.) Parents who attend Mass should park in the student parking lot and enter through the doors near the Pope John Paul II statue.

8th Grade Celebration and Picnic

During lunch (outside if weather permits)

After Mass, parents will depart, and 8th grade students will be treated to a celebration lunch with their classmates. 


Saturday, May 20,

8th Grade Mass, Pizza, and Games

5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Chapel and Courtyard

Because students attending the 8th-grade trip will not be able to attend Mass on Sunday, Father Ohanaka will offer Mass on Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. in Pope's Chapel. After Mass, we will have pizza and time for games in the courtyard. Pickup will be from 7:00-7:15 p.m. ALL 8th graders are invited and encouraged to join us. Please RSVP here by Friday, May 19.

Tuesday, May 23

8th Grade Graduation and Honors Night

5:30 p.m. –  Students meet in the Chapel for a class photo. Please be on time!

6:00 p.m. –  The program begins in the Auditorium.

A dessert reception will follow the program.

Dress is “Sunday best” for this event. 

Students will receive a print of the class photo as a gift from Pope Prep.

4:30 a.m. CT Coach departs!

11:15 a.m. Varsity Diner for lunch (at your expense)

8:00 a.m. Hotel breakfast

3:30 p.m. Depart for Adairsville, GA

5:00 p.m. Buc-ees for restroom stop and dinner (at your expense)

9:30 p.m. CT Coach approximate arrival time at Pope Prep 

While we are leaving early on Sunday and returning late on Monday, we hope students will sleep some on the bus! Students will not need to come to school on Tuesday unless making up an exam, so they can sleep in and have the day to get ready for 8th-grade graduation that evening. 8th Grade Trip Packing List

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Comfortable clothing for riding the bus and exploring the city
    • Clothes MUST be school appropriate!
    • No midriff, running shorts, tank tops, or tennis skirts
    • With leggings, must wear a long shirt that covers everything
    • Prepare for different kinds of weather
  • Comfortable shoes for walking around
  • Appropriate pajamas
  • Raincoat
  • Toiletries
    • Shower essentials
    • DEODORANT!
    • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Medications -
    • MUST give these to Ms. Rochester BEFORE departure
    • Label with student name and place in original packaging or a picture of the packaging/dosage in a Ziplock bag
      • First aid kit will be carried with Ms. Rochester
  • Spending Money - PLUS enough for two fast-food meals
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Snacks for the road

WHAT NOT TO BRING: 

  • Gaming consoles or other expensive electronics
  • Expensive jewelry
  • Wads of cash
